Itinerary
Day 1 – Dambulla
Upon landing in Sri Lanka you'll be driven in style to your chosen hotel in Dambulla, ready to start your adventure.
Day 2 – Dambulla, Sigiriya & Dambulla
Set those alarm clocks as you set off for a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya. Also known as Lion Rock, this impressive formation is 600 feet high. Discover remnants of the palace and don't miss the artworks and gardens.
Day 3 - Dambulla, Matale & Kandy
Rock Temple
Before heading out to Kandy, firstly you'll make a stop at the famous Dambulla Rock Temple. Dating back to the first century B.C. the Rock Temple is loaded with revered statues paintings and ornaments.
Matale Spice Garden
Your next stop after visiting the unusual temple is to stop by Matale Spice Garden. Matale is renowned for its spice plantations where a host of products are cultivated including vanilla, jackfruit, cocoa and cardamom. The area is also famous for Kohila, a type of watercress, and small, mild chillies.
Kandy City Tour
As you arrive in Kandy you'll experience the upper lake drive and market square. Look out for the cultural dance performances including fire walking.
Day 4 - Kandy, Peradeniya, Pinnawela & Kandy
Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden
This morning you'll leave for a trip to Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens located just a short distance from Kandy. The gardens are widely claimed to be the best in Asia. The garden is famous for its orchid house where over 300 varieties are proudly displayed.
Nuwara Eliya by Train*
The in-land train journeys in Sri Lanka are some of the most iconic activities you can try in the country. Experience the stunning verdant countryside and dramatic rolling hills from the window of the reserved compartment on your chugging train. Travel through man-made tunnels, green-fringed mountains and sprawling tea plantations.
*Please note, train tickets are subject to availability. Current disruption on the railway line may mean that the scenic train journey from Kandy is not possible. In such circumstances, travellers may enjoy an alternative scenic train ride from Anewela to Demodara on Day Six of the tour. Known for its Beautiful hill country landscapes and tea plantations, the journey allows guests to still enjoy a memorable train experience in Sri Lanka.
Day 5 - Kandy & Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya
Your next stop on the way to Nuwara Eliya is the Ramboda Waterfalls, the eleventh tallest in Sri Lanka. From there you'll get the chance to visit a Tea Plantation and learn all about the history of tea exporting and how the plants are grown.
Once you arrive in Nuwara Eliya known as the Little England of Sri Lanka you can expect a stunning backdrop of mountains, valleys and waterfalls. Look around and you'll spot lots of British influences from country cottage style houses and grand mansions. It's then onto your hotel for your evening meal and some rest.
Day 6 - Nuwara Eliya & Yala
After breakfast in the midst of the Cold Mountains, it's time to embark on the journey over to Yala renowned for its nature.
You'll then have a short stop at Ella to view the beautiful Ella Gap with breathtaking views, followed by another quick stop at Rawana Waterfalls, where you'll have chance for a photograph. From here you'll be taken to Yala for your overnight stay.
Day 7 - Yala & Galle
Your final day of the tour includes a visit to Yala National Park with its abundance of wildlife including leopards, crocodiles and elephants alongside over 215 species of bird.
It's then onto the city of Galle for a tour where you can stroll around the lighthouse and harbour or visit the old town, giving you chance to purchase some unique souvenirs. After your final tour evening, it will be time to get ready for your stay at Mermaid Hotel & Club, your home for the next seven days.
Day 8 - 14
Mermaid Hotel & Club
After all that adventure, spend 7 nights relaxing at the Mermaid Hotel & Club. It's a perfect base to discover more of Sri Lanka if you'd like to. It's a peaceful resort nestled within a historic coastal village in the suburbs of Kalutara on the edge of the Indian Ocean. With plenty to explore, a couple of glistening pools and palm-fringed beach you'll soon feel well-rested.
Day 14 – Colombo
Colombo city tour
Before heading home, there's time for one last adventure as you explore the city of Colombo. Here you can marvel at Hindu temples and visit the old bazaar. Or head into the centre and take in the skyscrapers which have come with the city’s modernity.
Day 14 - Return Home
Your Sri Lankan tour has come to an end, so your transfer will take you back to Bandaranaike International Airport to begin your return journey.
