Day One – Dambulla

The first day of your Sri Lankan adventure will see you getting to know your first resort of the trip ahead of the real adventures which hit the itinerary from tomorrow.

Day Two – Sigiriya

The first incredible stop on your 7-night Sri Lanka Private Tour is the enchanting “Fortress In The Sky”, also known as Lion Rock. A UNESCO World Heritage site dripping in historical relevance, the Royal Palace boasts 21 superb frescoes of damsels painted on the walls of the palace steps. The only surviving examples of Sinhala secular paintingsm, getting the opportunity to view them is a must-do.

Day Three - Dambulla & Matale

Spend the third day of your adventure getting to know the best sights around bustling Dambulla and Kandy.

Rock Temple

The secret refuge of King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. Incredible statues, ornaments and images have made their home in the ancient walls of the Rock Temple which actually dates back to the first century B.C.

Matale Spice Garden

The Matale Spice Garden is home to vast plantations where products like vanilla, jackfruit, cocoa and cardamom are all prevalent. While rubber and cinchona, a shrub harvested for it’s bark which aids digestion, are also cultivated.

Kandy City Tour

Upon arrival in Kandy step out and embrace the majesty of the city. Explore the vibrant markets and wander around the region’s centrepiece Bogambara Lake (also known as Kandy Lake). In addition to the lake and market you should also make time to check out the fire walkers who perform as part of the cultural dance.

Day Four - Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, Kandy

Following your day getting to know Kandy, you'll travel just a few kilometres oustide of the city to the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens. Believed to be one of the best examples of botanical gardens in all of Asia, Peradeniya is home to the famous Cannon Ball tree planted in 1901 by King George V and Queen Mary. Another of the garden's must-see's is the Orchid House which plays host to over 300 varieties of exquisite orchids.

Day five – Nuwara Eliya by Train*

The in-land train journeys in Sri Lanka are some of the most iconic activities you can try in the country. Experience the stunning verdant countryside and dramatic rolling hills from the window of the reserved compartment on your chugging train. Travel through man-made tunnels, green-fringed mountains and sprawling tea plantations.

*Please be aware tickets are subject to availability, but don't panic if your unable to secure any, because their are two backup options where the trip will be just as enjoyable. The first option is a picturesque train ride from Nanu Oya to Ella and the second option is venturing out to visit the Lotus Tower in Colombo on day 07 instead of the train ride.

Explore Nuwara Eliya

Get a taste for back home, thousands of miles from Britain. Among the vast tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya lie the quaint villages which help give the region its nickname of 'Little England'. A combination of the cooler climate and colonial architecture will have you feeling like you're back in Blighty, albeit a much greener version.

Day Six - Nuwara Eliya & Yala

Take up the option to make the journey from Peradeniya to Nuwara Eliya in style. This stunning railway journey will continue to allow Sri Lanka to shimmer in all its emerald glory as the train chugs along the antiquated tracks. You'll also travel over the iconic nine-arches bridge which is a sight to behold.

Yala National Park

At this stage of the trip you'll get a real chance to uncover the shining stars of Sri Lanka - the wildlife. Established in 1938, Yala (or Ruhuna) National Park covers a whopping 126,786 hectares and offers you the opportunity to potentially spy elephants, leopards, spotted deer, sambhur, crocodiles, mongoose, wild boar, wild buffalo and more all roaming their natural habitat. Plus, the twitchers in your group will be happy, as the park also plays host to around 130 bird species.

Day Seven - Galle & Colombo

After the thrills, spills and stunning sights of the park, you'll trade those natural vistas for two altogether more built up scenes in Galle and the capital Colombo.

Galle city tour

Trade the wilds of Ruhunu for the more urbanised surroundings of Galle. This old port city is as picturesque as it is historical. Wander it's ancient walls and explore the lighthouse and harbour, then journey further into the past with a jaunt around the old town area. Here markets steeped in history sit in the shadows of old colonial-style buildings to create a hauntingly beautiful scene.

Colombo city tour

On your final day exploring incredible Sri Lanka get out on the streets of Colombo and let one eye marvel at Hindu temples and old bazaars, while the other takes in the goldsmiths and skyscrapers which have come with the city’s modernity. There's nowhere in the world quite like it for blending the ancient, natural and modern worlds in one super-diverse cityscape.
