Itinerary
Day 1 – Johannesburg to Kruger Region
After your arrival in Johannesburg you will be moved into your private transfer to start the 400km journey to Kruger National Park.
There will be rest stops along the way as well as farm stalls to buy Biltong and other refreshments and a window full of incredible scenery as you make your way out of the city and into the Bushveld.
Day 2 – Kruger National Park
On your first full day on your Kruger National Park safari, you’ll get your first opportunity to get out and explore this rugged environment. An early start offers the best chance of catching a glimpse of the big five. Breakfast will be packed for you by the lodge and taken during your guided tour of the park.
Kruger Park is the largest wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, so it take some time to navigate the area. As it comes to lunch time, you will be able to get something to eat from the selection of rest camps inside the park.
The great news is, nature here doesn’t abide to seasons. So, you have a great chance of witnessing awesome animals like leopards, buffalos, lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, elephants and more, at any time of year.
Day 3 – Kruger Region – Panorama Route
If yesterday was all about the animals, this trip out into Kruger Park is more about the stunning landscapes.
Navigate your way down the R532 via two stop offs. This is a winding road which twists its way from the town of Sabie via a selection of graceful waterfalls - the Sabie Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Mac Mac Falls - to God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the three Rondavels.
First Stop – The Three Rondavels
The first stop is at one of the most famous spots along the Panorama Route. From your lofty positioning, you have first-class views out over the “Three Sisters” rock formations – widely regarded as one of the best viewpoints in the country.
From here you can also take in stunning vistas over Blyde River Canyon. Known as the third largest canyon in the world, and the largest green canyon, it offers beautiful panoramic views within 25 kilometres and is home to about 1,000 species of fauna and flora.
Final Stop – Bourkes Luck Potholes
Next up, you’ll stop for some fresh air and more scintillating views. This natural water feature has been carved since the beginning of time. The changes in flow as the Treur River plunges into the Blyde River cause huge cylindrical potholes to form.
Guides in the visitor centre will be able to convey even more interesting information about this staggering location – including details of its historical significance.
Day 4 – Kruger National Park – Full Day Game Drive
Today offers your second opportunity to spot the big 5 on safari. So if you missed any the first time around, here’s your chance to spot them again.
However, we should also mention, while you’re keeping your eyes peeled for the big five you will also be able to spy some of the 507 bird species, 114 reptile species, 49 species of fish and 34 amphibian species that call Kruger Park home.
Again, breakfast will be in the park courtesy of the pack given to you by the Lodge. Lunch, on the other hand, will be in your hands. Choose something delicious from the host of camps inside the park.
Day 5 – Cultural Village Experience
Experience everyday life in 2 Swazi camps. Here you’ll speak to the locals and discover what life is like in this stunning but unforgiving landscape.
During your time in the camps you’ll also be treated to traditional music and dance performances by the villagers for a truly unforgettable experience.
Day 6 – Day at the Lodge
The penultimate full day of your South Africa safari holiday is yours to enjoy however you wish. Relax on your wooden decking area with a good book, lounge in the pool, wander the grounds, or set out on one of the hiking trails.
There are no predators or dangerous animals, and you could have a magical encounter with giraffes, zebras, warthogs, wildebeest and some nyalas.
Optional Paid Activity – Chim Eden
Alternatively, if you don’t fancy staying put in the Lodge, you could book another game drive. Or why not book an excursion to Chim Eden. This haven for primates is the only chimpanzee sanctuary in the country and is part of the revered Jane Goodall Institute.
Day 7 – Kruger Region
Carry on enjoying your escape however you like through the morning. But in the afternoon you’ll be treated to an African Sundowner drive around the property.
This romantic activity will see you catch magical sunset views of the gorgeous Lowveld.
Day 8 – Kruger to Johannesburg
Unfortunately, your magical South African safari holiday has come to an end. You private transfer will arrive to return you to the airport loaded with stories and new memories.
