Up on the northeast coast of Mauritius lies the district of Pamplemousses and the incredible, Trou-aux-Biches area. Home to high-end resorts like Le Palmiste and Casuarina Resort & Spa, this delicate paradise is always a popular choice.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, the best things to do in Trou-aux-Biches mainly revolve around the beach and ultramarine ocean. But, in Mauritius, you're never too far away from a beach.
It wouldn't be paradisiacal location in Mauritius if we didn't talk about beaches, right? Well Trou-aux-Biches benefits from access to some stunning stretches of sand. Trou-aux-Biches beach is the main spot where water sports, diving and snorkelling can all be found - that is if you can move off the warm white sand, of course. Meanwhile, a quick sojourn into nearby Mont Choisy will bring you to the other fabulous area of coastline, Mont Choisy beach.
While we're on the subject of spectacular stretches of coastline... Trou-aux-Biches is a world-class location for underwater adventures. Here you can dip below the Indian Ocean waves and marvel at bustling reefs or swim alongside elegant sea turtles. The waters around Trou-aux-Biches Beach are also perfect for beginners and families. The shallow, calm water and easily swimmable reef is perfect for introducing kids to the watery world and, who knows, it may even spark a career in marine biology.
Just under 9km from Trou-aux-Biches lies the vibrant town of Grand Baie. This hub of tourism in the north of Mauritius is a popular spot for a reason. Here you can get out and explore everything from markets to museums and restaurants to dive centres.
Elsewhere the greater district of Pamplemousses you'll find the enchanting Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. If you're looking for a different activity during your Mauritian adventure then this is it. Learn about the endemic flora and fauna of the island while taking in the intoxicating aromas which flow throughout the gardens.
